From New York with Love

I have been slacking in my posts, I know.  It's been too hot to do anything, let alone bake then write about it.  I want to cry but I can't even do that because of the stifling heat.  Okay, enough of the nagging and let me tell you about my post birthday trip to Hong Kong.

I got the most delicious birthday treat from my sister-in-law, who was in New York the week before:

Yes - the holy grail, the end-all and be-all of those little cookie divas - Ladurée macarons.

Every bite was heavenly.  Just the slightest hint of crunch on the outside, then chewy (but not too much) inside.  Each delicate cookie melts perfectly in your mouth, leaving a smooth, velvety texture.  All eight flavors were so good but the standouts were the rose petal and salted caramel.
Aside from macarons, my sister-in-law brought home some cupcakes from Crumbs Bake Shop (clockwise from top left: caramel crunch, red velvet, blueberry cheesecake, and smores).
The cupcakes are huge - they're muffin-sized, and too sweet to my liking.  They taste great but it was just too sweet.  The best was the caramel crunch.  Good thing we had some tea to take off the overwhelming sweetness.

Thank you, B, for the wonderful treats!

More posts from my latest Hong Kong trip to follow, when this oppressive heat subsides a bit.
